Patricia Velásquez
Creativity extends beyond the
photographs, canvas or film, as well as the media. It also stimulates charity,
philanthropy, and activism. Award-winning model, actress, and history-making
supermodel an uncompromising philanthropist, diligent activist as well as a
writer and loving mother Patricia Velasquez applies an eternal creative spirit
to everything she does. Whether it's appearing in blockbuster films like The
Curse of La Llorona or launching the Wayuu Taya Foundation and participating in
the UNESCO Board. She believes in her intuition and is a pioneer of her own
path. "I think of my career as a long , sweeping staircase," she
says. "I have completed every step. It was incredible to do this, since
there was a lot of perseverance. I put my head down and made one step at a
time. Then, it was done. The metaphor directly resembles a formative
experience. After a few years she relocated to Venezuela. She was born in
Venezuela and raised in France and Mexico. Parents who were employed as
educators in South America, moved her family to a cramped apartment without
water and elevators. Patricia took 15 flights of stairs up with heavy buckets
to provide water to the area. Between studying engineering and intense dance
classes and work, she was determined to help the family however she could. The
promise she made to her family members, which was the most important factor
that helped her rise to the top in the fashion world, saw her sought-after to
model in Milan. She remembers telling her, "When they asked me whether I
wanted to travel to Italy and I said"If you can pay 30 bucks a month home
to Venezuela then it's worth itas it will cover the whole building's water
bills'." Patricia's triumph was the beginning of a new era in fashion, as
she attracted industry attention to South America for the first time. After
becoming "the first Karl Lagerfeld model ever photographed" and then
going on to appear in editorial spreads as well as front ads for Chanel and
Dolce & Gabbana. Resonating around the globe, she appeared on Oprah and
Ford Models' "Supermodel of the World" contest , as well. She was
also featured on the pages of Marie Claire, Bazaar and Vogue.
